Bonobo the Monkey

Room 1 have been enjoying listening to Mrs Blakesley's geocaching stories all year and today we all got to go geocaching!

We took our 'travel bug' Bonobo the Monkey to a geocache that is hidden near Parkvale School.  We left Bonobo in the geocache so he can be picked up by the next person who finds him. He may travel around New Zealand and even around the world moving from cache to cache!
We will be able to track his movements and find out where he is on our maps.

To find the geocache that we placed Bonobo in we had to enter the coordinates into our iPads.  Then we were able to follow the compass on the iPad as we walked.  Before we left school the compass showed us that the container was hidden 364 meters away.
We followed the arrow on the compass.

Ayden's mum, Pippa's mum and Mrs Morgan came with us and helped us to cross the roads safely.  We have been learning how to cross the road and to walk safely so this was the perfect opportunity to practice these skills.  We walked sensibly, looking out for sneaky driveways and keeping away from the kerb.  When we crossed the road we listened very carefully and we looked left, then right and then left again.   When it was safe to cross we walked briskly checking both directions as we crossed.

We are very excited to see where Bonobo goes on his adventures.  Keep an eye on our blog as we will update you with his movements!
