Teddy Bear's Picnic Maths

For maths today we made fruit kebabs.  We had to write down how many of each fruit we put on our kebab stick and then work out how many pieces of fruit we had altogether.

Learning through Play

Each day the children in Room 1 get the opportunity to learn through play.  This involves a lot of talk, problem-solving, creativity, communication, sharing, trying new things, making new friends and having fun!

Becoming a Chrysalis!

Room 1 watched this amazing transformation happen today in real life!  Yesterday we noticed 2 caterpillars hanging downwards in a fish hook shape.  This morning Phoebe spotted the skin of one of the caterpillars splitting open. We all watched as the caterpillar shed it's skin and became a beautiful chrysalis.  What an amazing thing to see happen!

Our Monarch Butterfly!

On Thursday Mrs Blakesley noticed that a chrysalis on our swan plant had turned transparent.
Mrs Blakesley brought the chrysalis inside so we could watch it.
We could see the black and orange Monarch butterfly inside.

Within minutes the chrysalis split open and monarch butterfly emerged.

Riley said that the butterfly's legs were long and skinny like a spiders.  It's sticky legs helped the butterfly to cling onto the branch.

We watched as the butterfly moved out of the chrysalis and slowly began to unfold it's wings.

Slowly the butterfly's wings dried and filled with blood so it could fly for the first time.

This amazing change is called metamorphosis.  We were so lucky to watch it happen!

Red the Ted!

Red is our classroom teddy bear.  Every morning the children in Room 1 introduce themselves to Red.  He has loved learning their names and it has helped everyone in Room 1 learn each other's names!

We practice using our classmate's names by playing some fun games!  We love singing, "Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar" and also calling names as we roll the ball to each other.

The Gorgeous Children in Room 1!

We love walking out to the back of the field and through the new native garden.  It's a beautiful shady spot with little pathways for us to follow.  We have to be careful of the native seedlings and stick to the pathways.

Welcome to Room 1!

We have had a busy first week in Room 1, having fun and getting to know each other.
Swimming each afternoon has been a big hit and everyone is very interested in what is happening on our swan plants.
